Guida Ready for Denver

Holding an impressive 22-9 professional record, Guida has competed against (and beaten) many of the top lightweight fighters competing in the sport today.

ImageThere are not too many adjectives that can describe how wonderful the Roger Huerta-Clay Guida war was on Saturday. The matchup, touted as the potential fight of the year, more than lived up to that billing. This year has had its share of thrilling battles, such as Huerta-Leonard Garcia, Takanori GomiNick Diaz (Pictures) and a few others, but it's fairly safe to assume that Huerta-Guida will snatch the award.

ImageLAS VEGAS, December 8 – Roger Huerta didn’t think getting his fifth victory of 2007 wasgoing to be easy, but he didn’t think beating fellow lightweight contender Clay Guida was going to be this hard either. But after losing the first ten minutes of the action-packed main event at The Palms Resort and Casino tonight, Huerta won the next 51 seconds, and those were the ones that counted, as ‘El Matador’ remained unbeaten in the UFC with a third round submission victory.

ImageVirtually every fighter, from novice to world champion, wakes up at the crack of dawn for a depleting morning run. Typically, pad work, bag work, mitt work and jumping rope follow. Then there's weight training, a proper diet that frustrates most, and grueling cardio regimens. Don't forget to include all the hours of bone-jarring sparring.

ImageThere was a time when Clay Guida, a lightweight mixed martial arts fighter out of Northern Illinois, didn't know if he would ever get a call up to the "big leagues" of the sport; the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). When Guida did get his chance, a fight at UFC 64 against Justin James, he took the opportunity seriously and came out with a second-round TKO win.
